A Stanford Law School dean once joked that her school offered aspiring lawyers the best of both worlds — a world-class education “in paradise.”

She had a good point. Stanford Law School students receive top-flight legal training from an outstanding faculty, conducted on the grounds of a beautifully designed, beautifully located campus located about a half-hour’s drive south of San Francisco. Students can enjoy amenities like state-of-the-art classrooms and a top-notch law library against a backdrop of swaying palm trees and views of San Francisco Bay.

Stanford law schoolAdditional benefits of attending Stanford Law School include small class sizes (Stanford’s enrollment is even smaller than Yale’s), a low student-to-faculty ratio, and a wide range of classes, programs, and concentrations. Stanford’s programs in international and comparative law, business and corporate law, intellectual property law, criminal law, tax law, public interest law, labor law, litigation, and mediation are all considered among the best in the nation. Stanford pioneered the use of legal clinics in law education and continues to offer students many opportunities to practice their skills under the mentorship of experienced professionals. Stanford  Law is also unusual in allowing first-year students to take elective courses, in their second semester.

Stanford is also — not surprisingly — one of the most competitive law schools in the U.S. The cost of living in the San Francisco area also makes Stanford Law one of the more expensive schools to attend. However, graduates are well compensated for that cost by receiving an outstanding education and gaining membership in an alumni network, both of which will serve them well throughout their careers.
